Diaries and papers of Robert Larimer, 1863-1865.

Include diaries, 1863 and 1865, of Robert Larimer describing his service in the Union army, camp life, the seige of Charleston (1863) and the attack on Fort Sumter, operations on Little Folly Island, S.C., gunboats, bombardment of Morris Island, S.C. Springfield rifles, target practice and boat drills, and voting for pro-Union candidates. Also describe the seige of Richmond, purchasing land in Minnesota under Homestead Law, capture of Fort Gregg, Va., the Appomattox Campaign and surrender at Appomattox, visit to Washington D.C., return to Richmond and duties until mustered out, his captain's mugging, and visit to "photograph gallery", with scattered references to freed slaves and Afro-American troops. Also include military records; list, 1865, of contributors to fund to buy sword and watch for the captains; notes, n.d., on causes and start of the Civil War; and three newspaper clippings.
